KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) – The Knoxville Area Rescue Mission is taking additional action to stop the spread of COVID-19 at its facility. KARM has installed the new CASPR disinfection system in its heating and ventilation systems.

KARM leaders say this is just an extension of the work they have done to help limit the spread of COVID at their facilities. Disinfection systems clean the air around the clock and help clean surfaces inside the facility.

“We didn’t want to close our doors for even a minute – where else would they go? Said Steven Clabough, KARM vice president of operations. “Since we serve between 800 and 1,000 meals per day and accommodate up to 300 guests per night – then there are neighborhoods close by here and in order to provide a safe environment – this is one of the main reasons why we made this CASPR system in addition to what we were doing.

Clabough says limiting the spread is especially important given the recent increase in the homeless population and the spread of the Delta into the community. KARM says CASPR is already mitigating cluster breakouts and that they are able to deal with hot spots better. The teams always fog the building throughout the day and regularly disinfect the surfaces.
